Economy Irrigated Pasture Mix: There are times in farming, ranching and land management when an economical approach is the best approach. And let’s face it, the economy has not been great the last few years. Folks are saving where they can. Limited budgets, timing, environmental conditions, availability of water and any number of other factors prevent an “ideal” outcome worthy of more expensive, premium products. Sometimes planting a less expensive product is better than planting nothing at all. With that in mind, we are offering an inexpensive but effective Irrigated Pasture Mix.
Economy Irrigated Pasture Mix was designed for quick results without breaking the bank. It is designed with affordable but effective species. It will establish on sites with 13″ or more annual precipitation but will persist better on site with 14″ or more annual precipitation. This mix will tolerate moderate amounts of pH and salt.
All species in this mix are proven varieties, including:
Hulk Tall Wheatgrass (Thinopyrum ponticum) is a new, more palatable variety of Tall Wheatgrass. It establishes and persists in saline conditions AND is highly palatable. Is a great forage option for poor soil conditions. It has high forage yield potential, can be cut and grazed. Tall Wheatgrass is a perennial, cool-season, introduced bunchgrass that grows 3 to 7 feet tall. It is especially tolerant of saline or alkali soils and adapted to either irrigated or sub-irrigated.
Arido Tall Fescue is a medium-early maturing, low-endophyte tall fescue variety. Tall Fescue is a widely used and loved pasture grass in North America.
Tucker Orchardgrass is an early to mid maturing forage orchardgrass. It was developed from a five clone polycross from several top performing varieties. It is an excellent choice for mixing alfalfa for producing high quality hay for horses and cattle. It also mixes well with other cool-season grasses like tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, timothy, and brome. High yields of palatable, digestible forage.
Bandito II Intermediate Ryegrass (Lolium hybridum) is short-lived perennial cool-season bunch grass. Used in mixes for overseeding warm-season grasses and for grazing or silage where some rapid establishment is needed. It has a wide range of varietal performance and characteristics, ranging from annual ryegrass in appearance to a wider leaf blade perennial ryegrass. Bandito II is a tetraploid variety and is endophyte free. We frequently use it as a fast establishing component of pasture mixes.
