Marsh Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja exilis) is one of about 200 species of Castilleja. It is an annual and can grow from 2 – 4 ft. tall. Showy red bracts protrude from the flower head in  summer months. Marsh Indian Paintbrush is distributed through the Western US in low to middle elevation of wet areas of marshes, meadows, ditch banks, etc. Prefers medium to fine texture soil and tolerates high alkali, salt and PH.
