Thickleaf Penstemon (Penstemon pachyphyllus) is a member of the Figwort family. It is a short-lived native perennial. It closely resembles Rocky Mountain Penstemon and their habitats overlap.
Thickleaf penstemon is found in Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. It is found in salt desert shrub, sagebrush-grass, pinyon-juniper, mountain brush, and conifer plant communities. It is very often a pioneering species after wildfire or other forms of disturbance, giving way to climax species after a few years. It prefers well-drained, infertile, disturbed soils. It occurs on dry gravelly soils at elevations of 5,000-9,000 feet. Thickleaf penstemon will thrive and persist on 10-16 inches of annual precipitation.
CERTIFIED HAND COLLECTED SEED
The process of hand collecting seed is millennia old. Seeds are gathered from native plant "stands" on public or private lands in the Intermountain West where these plants have lived for millions of years. Seed is gathered by hand stripping, cutting or "beating" the seed pods or capsules into a collection barrel. The process is laborious and time consuming. Collections may be as small as a few pounds to tens of thousands of pounds of material. Field collected material is conditioned in our state of the art facility down to pure seed that can be delivered to you!
