Bandito II Intermediate Ryegrass (Lolium hybridum), Tetraploid
Bandito II Intermediate Ryegrass is short-lived perennial cool-season bunch grass. Used in mixes for overseeding warm-season grasses and for grazing or silage where some rapid establishment is needed. It has a wide range of varietal performance and characteristics, ranging from annual ryegrass in appearance to a wider leaf blade perennial ryegrass. It provides exceptionally high nutritional value.
Bandito 2 tetraploid intermediate ryegrass exhibits excellent cold tolerance and improved winter hardiness. It has shown higher levels of protein for a healthier diet and increased livestock production. Combine these traits with quick establishment, tremendous regrowth, and higher forage yields and you have a recipe for success. It is suitable for all classes of livestock, especially those with high nutrient requirements such as young, growing animals. It is an excellent wildlife feed. It’s forage provides high- quality grazing and a quick source of energy for geese, ducks, wild turkeys, rabbits, deer, and elk.
Bandito 2 is well suited for both hay and silage. For optimal performance Bandito 2 should be cut in the boot stage prior to seed head formation.
It can also be used as a nurse crop with fall-plant legumes such as clover. The extensive root system of Bandito 2 makes it an effective catch crop for nitrogen and can help break up compacted soils. It offers many benefits including erosion control, improvement of aggregate stability, and increased organic matter to the soil profile.
Bandito II is a tetraploid variety and is endophyte free. We frequently use it as a fast establishing component of pasture mixes. Can also be used in pasture mixes as a companion to Annual Ryegrass
