Forage FX 1002 Winter Triticale

×Triticosecale

Forage FX 1002 Winter Triticale is a superior high-yielding beardless winter triticale developed for livestock forage production. It offers excellent winter hardiness, strong forage yields, and an awnless seed head that makes it a great choice for feeding livestock. Whether you’re growing on dryland or under irrigation, FX 1002 is a dependable option for producing plenty of quality forage.

FX 1002 was bred with northern growers in mind. It has been tested for winter survival in cold climates like Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota, where harsh winters can make forage production challenging. In regional trials it has produced forage and seed yields that match or exceed other leading forage varieties.

One of the biggest advantages of FX 1002 is its beardless seed head. Its awnless heads help reduce concerns like sore eyes, lump jaw, and irritation when feeding livestock. Combined with its high forage production and cold tolerance FX 1002 is a solid choice for growers looking to get more out of their forage acres.

Origin & Breeding: Developed by David Wichman and Patrick Hensleigh, owned by Montana State University, and licensed to Montech Seed Group LLC. It serves as the next-generation successor to Forage FX 1001.

FX 1001 and FX 1002 are produced under license from Montech Seed Group. FX 1001 and FX 1002 are both PVP Title V varieties and must be sold as certified seed only.

Planting & Establishment

Forage FX 1002 is a fall-planted winter triticale. Plant early enough in the fall to allow good establishment before winter dormancy. It resumes growth in the spring and can be harvested for livestock forage.

Like other forage triticale varieties, harvest timing plays an important role in balancing forage quality and total tonnage.
