Lander Alfalfa has been very successful in the Intermountain West. It is our best-selling alfalfa 6 years running. It excels in dryland and irrigated situations. Lander has established a strong market in Utah where it exceeds expectations in challenging soil conditions, high winds and temperature extremes. It performs well in sandy, silty, alkali and salt soils of Eastern Utah and Nevada. It is a favorite of cubing facilities and forage producers for it’s leafy nutrient-rich dark green foliage. Lander demonstrates excellent winter survival and is resistant to stem nematodes and verticillium wilt.
The University of Wyoming Plant Science Department in Powell WY developed Lander Alfalfa. It demonstrates good tolerance to harsh conditions. Lander shines in areas with high wind, extreme daily temperature swings, poor soil conditions and varying water.
Brown root rot occurs in numerous north American and Canadian locations and is often an unrecognized contributor of winter kill. Lander resists brown root rot and was the first alfalfa in the United States selected for the trait. Parent plants were selected after surviving seven years of Wyoming winters in soils with natural infestations of BRR.
In Montana and Wyoming Lander performed well in alfalfa variety trials under irrigated and dryland conditions.

Arrived quickly as promised. Seed looks good and pure.
Started developing a elongated 2 1/2 acre food plot adjacent to a river on the Southside of our land in Eastern Washington’s prime Mule Deer country. Didn’t get the ground prep done until mid June of this year, very rocky soil, I had 25 lbs. of the Lander seed I had purchased in May of 2017, broadcast spread it and order more seed immediately. Because of the lateness of the plant I had to set up sprinklers to put water to the project. Before the new seed arrived (FedEx, 4 days!) the 2017 seed was germinating and I quickly broadcast the new seed and it came up just as quick. Since we have had extended temps in the 90’s and low 100’s it has been necessary to water daily, however, this Lander Alfalfa just keeps growing. This food plot is a safety zone for the deer and is currently being grazed on by several Mule Deer does and their fawns and our chickens. Amazing how this Lander grows!!! I will order more seed to broadcast spread this Fall and again next Spring to fill in the gaps. Thank you Great Basin for such great seed. Steve Pringle, Nighthawk Area, Okanogan County, E.
