Tailcup Lupine (Lupinus caudatus) is a perennial forb/herb  native to the US. It an active growth period in the spring and summer, producing an abundance of flower stocks. It spreads readily, forming low clumps several feet wide, with the reddish purple flower stems. Like most lupines, the leaves and stem have a coating of fine, silvery hairs.
