General Description:

The Streambank Mix is designed for stream banks, canal edges, ditch banks, and other hillsides areas. This mix is designated for erosion control, soil retention and weed suppression. While the varieties are bunch grasses, many of the root systems are densely rhizomatous structures that will help with weed suppression and erosion control.  The grasses are long lived and will prevent topsoils from eroding due to wind and water disturbances.

Mix Contains:

20% Western Wheatgrass

20% Streambank Wheatgrass 

10% Smooth Bromegrass

25% Intermediate Wheatgrass

20% Dahurian Wildrye 

5% Garrison Creeping Meadow Foxtail 

Uses:

The Streambank Mix can be used in many cases, but is designed for areas alongside canals, stream banks, and ditches. It is mainly used for erosion control and weed suppression but can be used as forage for livestock and wildlife. All of the varieties are drought tolerant and very palatable with good forage value.

Planting Conditions:

Containing drought tolerant varieties, the Streambank Seed Mix should be planted late fall, before snow flies. It should be planted late enough in the years that the seed does not germinate until the following spring. Usually the soil temperatures need to be below 50 degrees F.

The seed can also be sown in the early spring, if there is adequate rainfall and moisture to aid in germination and root development. These varieties can be grown in as little as 12-14″ of annual precipitation and prefer full sunlight.

Establishment:

Dormant planting can be done when soil temperatures are below 50 degrees F. The seed mix can also be planted in the spring time , but the soil must remain moist for seed germination.

The Streambank Seed Mix should not be planted more than 1/4″ deep.

Seeding Rate:

Pasture Seeding rate: 15-20 pounds per acre
